MT. Pumori Expedition Overview
Mt. Pumori Expeditions reaches you on top 7,161 m and 23,632 m high, one of most beautiful looking peaks located close to Mt. Everest towards west, where one can view at nearest within stone throw distance from high top of Kalapathar Hill.
Mt. Pumori straddles the border with Nepal and Tibet / China, where most of the climbing expeditions done from southern sides of Nepal, situated at 28 00 53 Latitude and 86 49 41 Longitude within scenic high Khumbu valley near to Everest base camp.
Mt. Pumori Expedition, indeed a great adventure one of popular above 7,000 meters range of mountains in Nepal Himalaya, climb offers tough challenges to reach the summit of Mt. Pumori around few sections.
With various routes to reach the top setting last Camp III besides Advance with Camp I and II to arrive safely and successfully on the summit of Mt. Pumori using North East route a regular and main course than taking straight up from base camp a sheer vertical climb to the top.
The final climb to the summit of Mt. Pumori determined after much planning having rest days for acclimatization and practice climb as well getting familiar with the route to the summit, allowing enough days to get used to climbing gear and equipment.
Mt. Pumori Expeditions begins on reaching Lukla town from Kathmandu by swift air journey, then leads to pleasant walk past villages of Phakding and Monjo to enter Sagarmatha National Park (Sagarmatha for Everest in Nepalese while local Sherpa knows by the name Chomolungma).
From the park entrance with a climb to Namche Bazaar, a Mecca and hub of trekkers as well for local villagers where colorful Saturday market takes place once a week interesting to observe the busy, crowded bazaar and cultures of Sherpa people interwoven with Buddhism religion.
After Namche spending extra days for acclimatization and exercise walks to scenic view-points where high route offers glorious views of Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse with majestic peak Amadablam and series of peaks all the way to reach a beautiful spot in Thyangboche.
At Thyangboche, visit the monastery of great interest and get blessed from the high priest for good weather, successful climb to the top of Mt. Pumori and safe descend within the scenic place amid green woodland surrounded by an array of snow-capped peaks.
On leaving Thyangboche head high north where tree lines fade for the mountainous country of rugged landscapes as walk slowly reaches to Pangboche, Dingboche and Lobuche then getting closer to our leading destination at Mt. Pumori base camp after walking past small settlement Gorakshep.
Gorakshep placed an in-between route towards scenic Kalapathar Hilltop with the trail to Mt. Pumori and Everest base camps, (Gorakshep once an original Everest base camp from the 1950s till mid-1970s).
After Gorakshep walks on the same path of Everest base camp for few hours, then our route diverts above from the main trail to reach at Mt. Pumori base camp located beneath the lofty peak of Mt. Pumori.
At base camp, enough time to acclimatize as well to get familiar with the route of climb includes practice and massive preparations, dividing gears for the long haul to the summit of Mt. Pumori.
From base camp reserved twelve days for the summit bid, with days to ferry types of equipment and camping gear to designated campsites than back waiting for good beautiful weather for the final ascent to the summit.
The climb takes you to set Advance Camp adding more to Camp III close to the ledge and slopes of Mt. Pumori summit, a robust and highly technical peak to encounter and avoiding crevices and avalanches that occurs quite frequently around Mt. Pumori.
A mountain fully covered with Ice and snow with a small rocky section to climb on reaching the summit where views get at its best overlooking Mt. Everest at the nearest distance with adjoining giant mountains includes views of Rongbuk valley towards Tibetan side.
After a great moment on top descend safely back on the same route using several camps to reach base camp, where days are spared for packing and clearing garbage to be safe, designated place.
Return journey after feeling in high spirit will be pleasant with long descend and back within green tree lines to Namche then at Lukla for a super short flight to reach Kathmandu, after a tremendous marvelous adventure and climb on Mt. Pumori Expeditions.
Seasons for Mt. Pumori Expeditions:
From March to the first week of June will be the best time for the climb to Mt. Pumori like other high mountain ranges of Himalaya, during spring season days are clear most of the time, the afternoon can get cloudy with cold freezing temperatures with wind-chill factors.
Sunlight hours much longer during springtime as well for a pleasant walk and climb, other good times from September to November, although not much accessible on the autumn season can plan the expedition during the early autumn season, most days are beautiful with clear blue sky. Still, short sunlight hours can be much colder, especially morning and nighttimes, where wind-chill factor adds to more cold.
MT. Pumori Expedition Short Outline Itinerary
Day 01: Arrival at Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.
Day 02-03: In Kathmandu preparation for Mt. Pumori Expeditions.
Day 04: Fly to Lukla 2,830 m and trek to Phakding 2,640 m – 04 hrs.
Day 05: Trek to Namche Bazaar 3,440 m – 05 hrs.
Day 06: Rest day at Namche Bazaar for acclimatization and excursion.
Day 07: Trek to Thyangboche 3,867 m – 05 hrs.
Day 08: Trek to Dingboche 4,260 m – 05hrs.
Day 09: At Dingboche for rest and short hike for acclimatization.
Day 10: Trek to Lobuche 4,930 m – 05 hrs.
Day 11: Trek to Gorakshep 5,180 m climb Kalapathar walks to Pumori Base Camp 5,430 m.
Day 12: At base camp acclimatization, preparations, and practice climb.
Day 13-24: (12 days) Summit days for Mt. Pumori and withdrawal to Base Camp.
Day 25: Clean up the day the base camp and packing for the return journey.
Day 26: Trek to Pangboche 3,900 m – 06 hrs.
Day 27: Trek to Namche Bazaar – 06 hrs.
Day 28: Trek to Lukla – 06 hrs.
Day 29: Fly back to Kathmandu and transfer to respective hotels.
Day 30-31: In Kathmandu, rest and submit expeditions report to the concerned department.
Day 32: International departure for homeward bound.
