From Lukla walk leads on pleasant trails with grand views of mountains and landscapes scenery. The walking through lovely Sherpa villages on following Dudh Kosi a glacial river for few days till walk reaches high and colorful Namche Bazaar. With time for rest and acclimatization at fascinating Namche Bazaar exploring its exciting view-points in the harmony of the local culture of Sherpa people then heading towards beautiful location at Thyangboche surrounded by lovely green forest and snow-capped peaks with Everest and Amadablam.

Enjoy visiting its impressive monastery where walk continues into the barren and arid country on leaving behind the green forest and tree lines for the sheer wilderness of mountains. The trail leads to cross Kongma-la the first pass of the adventure that leads to Everest base camp and climb of high Kalapathar.

After visiting Everest base camp and crossing high Kongma-la, where the second traverse leads over Cho-la pass to reach the scenic, and beautiful Gokyo valley with the emerald-colored glacial lakes facing outstanding views of Cho-Oyu and other peaks are surround. Finally our last and final adventure leads over high Renjo-la to complete all Everest Three Passes and then on long descend past quaint village of Thame and back into green tree lines to reach Namche and at Lukla.

Best Seasons for Everest Three Passes Adventure

March to May springtime will be the best time when wild-flowers especially the rhododendron (Nepal national flower) in full bloom, which the walk more attractive with beautiful bright morning till afternoon, with some chances of rains sometimes.

October to early December another best months around Autumn/Fall and pre-winter, when most of the days are clear for views and walks but can be much colder and freezing as altitude gains with chances of snow sometimes.

Monsoon months from mid June to mid September a wet rainy seasons where less number of trekkers venture and some lodge in mid monsoon and mid-winter lodge can be closed sometimes due to harsh and humid climate which makes the walking trails much harder and slippery, but much greener hills with lush vegetation in wet seasons, so the choice as per your holidays for Nepal and for Everest Three Passes Adventure.

  • After a short rest climb on rocky moraine to the top of Kongma-la pass and descend to other glacial area.
  • Walk over Khumbu glacier for few hours and climb to dunes reaching at Lobuche for overnight stop in local nice lodge, after a great walk of near 8 hours.

Day 11: Trek to Everest Base Camp 5,365 m and at Gorakshep 5,180 m-06 hrs

Day 12: Morning climb Kalapathar 5,545 m walks to Dzongla 4,835 m- 06 hrs.

Day 13: Cross Cho-La pass 5,367 m descend to Thaknag 4,710 m - 08 hrs.
  • Early morning start climb on icy and rocky sections to reach on top Cho-la pass

  • Descend to the bottom of Cho-la to reach at Thaknag for overnight after a great long walk of the day.

Day 14: Walk to Gokyo Lake 4,800 m - 04 hrs.
  • Morning a short walk on gradual uphill path and climb towards Gokyo first Lake after few hours from Thaknag and close to Ngozumba glacier
  • Reach the third main lake of Gokyo after walking second lake.
  • At Gokyo for lunch and overnight stop with afternoon free for leisure walks.

Day 15: Cross Renjo-la 5,360 m and descend to Lungden 4,380 m - 07 hrs.
  • Starting early morning walk towards the side of Gokyo Lake and climb for few Hours to reach on top Renjo-la.
  • Reach the last pass of the adventure on top Renjo-la with views of Everest, Lhotse Cho-Oyu and Makalu
  • Descend to a small place at Lungden for overnight stop after a great long walks and adventure of more than 6-7 hours.

Day 16: Trek to Thame village 3,880 via Marlung - 06 hrs.
  • Walk downhill to Bhote Kosi River past Marlung village to reach at quiet Thame village for overnight stop.
  • At Thame with time for rest and visit old Thame monastery of great interest

Frequently Asked Questions


How hard and tough is Everest Three High Passes treks?

Not that tough as it looks, but all trekkers should be physically fit as well in sound medical health to join in this trip, involves high passes above 5,400 m with a steep climb and descend hill. The trek one requires enough exercise and preparation like jogging, swimming, or other physical outdoor activity before joining in.

How many persons in the group?

From minimum 3 to 4 persons in the group and the maximum number from 10 to15 persons in one group, sometimes we run treks for a single person as well where the price will be slightly higher than in groups.

What will be the weather like on the treks?

As season-wise, best times from March to May, most of the day is bright with the minimum temperatures of 0° to 20° Celsius depending upon the elevation wise.
Where most of the morning till middays clear views and walks, sometimes afternoon can get overcast with chances of light rains and snow.
March to May will be lively with wild-flowers in full bloom exceptionally various species of rhododendron (national flower of Nepal) from trees to short bushes.

What type of facilities to expect on lodge and Tea-House on Treks?

Tea-House and lodge on route trekking standard and good lodges with beautiful room accommodations, serving excellent food menu as per altitude and season wise.
The higher area above 4,000 m where lodges are available but due to cold temperatures in night and morning time where they have toilets are outside, with some inside as shared bathrooms and restrooms. All rooms and dining are warm with fireplace to make heat; it cozy to make your stay much pleasant and enjoyable.

What about electricity and network for cell-phones?

Most places have electricity on trekking run by hydro and solar power after Namche and Thyangboche, where much of electric supply are private and individual of the lodge owners with sun / solar power to activate electronic just for the lodge and as well for customers to charge their computers and cell-phones.
Some places do have networks for cell phones, and as well for internets like Wi-Fi above Dingboche and some areas due to high peaks and hills, the systems are disturbed in dark areas like around river gorge areas.
At present all local people in villages do have cell-phones with good network connection just in bad weather where the line can sometimes be disturbed due to bad weather and at places located in the deep gorge area.

What happens if some is sick and have to break the trek?

AAGT guides are expert with good knowledge for emergency and medical purpose, depending pon the seriousness of the victims, if it is much critical where nearest medical attention needed, we call for immediate evacuation for Helicopter services to reach the victims to nearest medical station and hospital.
For light AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness), resting and drinking enough fluid leaving a new guide to take care of sick clients till he/she recovers on route treks or help them to descend to safer areas and receiving an advance flight back to Kathmandu.

How are meals in lodges and hygiene wise on treks?

Meals are prepared according to your choice of menu items; all foods are carefully prepared with much hygiene concern, avoiding from complaints and reputation of the lodges, as they have been serving for more than two decades to world-wide travelers.

Do people could get sick while on treks and why?

To be on the right side before and after treks get advice from your guides what will be the best food to order while on treks, we strongly suggest staying away from meats items in the first place, as it is not hygienic could be stale meat of a week time or more. If you go with a vegetarian for sometimes will be the best options to stay healthy till you get immune to the local environment and culture.

Where do Sherpa come from?

Sherpa, a tribe of Himalaya, spread out throughout Nepal and in Northern India as well, where most are concentrated in Solu and Khumbu district of Mid-East Nepal a Tibetan origin, in Tibetan language Sher means East and pa for people.
Meaning East People of Tibet migrated to Nepal more than past 500 years of history, Sherpa men are the pioneer in mountaineering and guiding on treks and mountains; they are born mountaineers, where history shows late Tenzing Norgay Sherpa who first conquered Mt. Everest on May 29th, 1953 with British Expeditions. At present many mountaineering expeditions are entirely depended on Sherpa climbers to leads the climb to various mountains summit around Himalaya.
