Poon Hill Trek 5 days itinerary starts from the scenic and gorgeous city of Pokhara. It is located on the lap of a high and massive Annapurna range of mountains with the ever-present Machhapuchare Himal, the famous ‘Fish Tail’ peak.

Ghorepani Poon Hill Trekking 5 days itinerary is an ideal and perfect walk around high green hills. It is covered with an enchanting forest of tall rhododendrons, magnolia, blue pine, and fir trees, which makes the area exotic and fascinating throughout the walks.

Poon Hill Trek is a beautiful short adventure, where we can enjoy the spectacular panorama of Mid-Western Himalayan peaks. That includes the world 7th high Mt. Dhaulagiri (8167m), with Tukuche and Nilgiri’s mountains including the world’s tallest Mt. Annapurna(8,091 m) with 8th high Manaslu range (8,163 m).

From Pokhara leads to the start of walks following the ancient Trans-Himalaya Salt Trade Route trail. That extends far beyond Ghorepani (our destination) towards Upper Mustang towards the border of Tibet.

You walk past lovely farm terraces and villages with climb high to enter serene cool woodland to reach Ghorepani. Ghorepani is a delightful town located amid rhododendron and pine tree lines populated by the Poon people of the Magar tribe.

At Ghorepani in the comfort of the beautiful cozy lodge, where next early morning takes an hour’s hike on Poon Hill. The highest spot of the adventure at 3,210 m offers mind-blowing sunrise over an undulating range of Himalayas views. It covers all three world’s highest mountains of Nepal Mid and Far West Himalaya ranges.

After a most exciting time with a fabulous panorama of 360° extensive mountain views with striking sunrise, the walk continues from Ghorepani. It takes an alternative U-turn to visit the high areas of Tadapani and Gurung village at Ghandruk with endless views of peaks.

Poon Hill Trek 4 Days Itinerary

Day 01: Drive to Nayapool (1,070M) from Pokhara (800m), and Trek to Ulleri (1,900m), ½ hour drive, a 5-6 hour walk

Day 02: Trek to Ghorepani (2860m), a 5-hour walk

Day 03: Early morning hike to Poon Hill (3,210m) and Trek to Ghandruk (1,920m), a 7-8 hours walk

Day 04: Trek to Nayapool and Drive back to Pokhara, a 5-hour walk, and ½ hour’s drive (If don’t want to walk further, you can drive back from Ghandruk. Here is also a possible private vehicle or Public vehicle as your choice. A private vehicle will be a faster and more comfortable journey through the bumpy road in a remote region.)

Note: If you are starting a trip from Kathmandu, you have an early morning flight to Pokhara and start your trip. It will take around 25 minutes to fly.

Best Seasons for Poon Hill Trek:

Can visit nearly all seasons of the year, but most are preferred in the springtime of March to May. During this season, wildflowers, especially rhododendrons (Nepal’s national flower), will be in full bloom, with bright morning till afternoon, with some chances of rain sometimes.

October to early December is another best month around Autumn/Fall and the start of winter. Nearly all days are clear for views and pleasant walks, but cold and freezing temperatures around high altitudes can expect snow sometimes.

Poon Hill Trek 5 Days Detailed Itinerary


01
Day 01: Drive to Nayapul, (1070m) start a walk to Tirkhedhunga 1,460 m- 05 hrs.

High Altitude: 1460, Thikadhunga 

Trek Duration:  1/2 hour drive and 4-hour walk

Accommodation: Tea Houses

Meal: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner   

After breakfast, morning drive takes you past Pokhara city and the valley with beautiful views of Annapurna, Manaslu, and Machhapuchare the Fish Tail peaks.

Then reach at Nayapul (42 km from Pokhara) via the village of Lumle and Kande, drive 1/2 hour reach to the Nayapool. Nayapul short walk to Bhirethati, a beautiful, prosperous town, as walk follows on the main trail past Bhirethati through lovely. Waterfalls as the route continue to Ranghai and Hille village, from here a slow climb to the side of a valley to reach at Tirkhedhunga for overnight stop a place with beautiful waterfalls.

Day 02: Trek to Ghorepani 2,860 m-06 hrs.

High Altitude: 2860, Ghorepani

Trek Duration: 5/6 hour walk

Accommodation: Tea Houses

From Tirkhedhunga morning cross over a suspension bridge, then ascend upwards, climbing on steep stone steps (about 3,300 of them!) to a large Magar village of Ulleri. The trek reaches a pleasant place of Bhanthati as walk cross dense pasturelands and continues to walk to Ghorepani.

Walk within serene rhododendron and pine forest with a gradual climb to Ghorepani for an overnight stop, located at 2,880 m. Here we view the spectacular eyewitness panorama of imposing Mt. Dhaulagiri (8167m), with Tukuche and Nilgiri’s peaks, includes Huinchuli Himal.
This is a charming village located amid rhododendron and pine tree lines populated by Poon people of the Magar tribe.

The panoramic view of snow-capped mountains from Mt. Dhaulagiri (8,167m), Tukuche Peak (6,920m), Nilgiri’s (6940m), Vara Shikar / Annapurna Fang (7,847 m), Mt. Day 05: Trek to the road head and drive to Pokhara-05 hrs.

Last day trek of this short adventure after breakfast downhill walks to low, warm farm area of just a few hours enjoyable walks, past Kimche to Syali bazaar. Then drive to Pokhara past Bhirethati and Nayapul villages and arriving back at beautiful Pokhara and transfer to your respective hotels by the lake Phewa, afternoon rest, and walk or take a boat ride at Phewa Lake.
