MT. Everest South Col Expedition Overview

Expedition to Mt. Everest South from South Col falls within Nepal around high Khumbu valley, where mountaineers were the first foreign visitors to Nepal since the early 1950s, using the old classic and original route from Jiri town to reach Everest base camp, taking more than two weeks.

At present walking and trekking itinerary days has shortened since the establishment of Lukla airport built with the help and support of Sir Edmund Hillary and his Foundation or Trust in the late 1970s, where the walk starts from on shortest route flying into Lukla airport from the capital Kathmandu landing at unique air-strip in Lukla.
Lukla airport named after famous mountaineers late Tenzing and Hillary the first to reach on top Mt. Everest way back on May 29th, 1953.

The walk follows on excellent pleasant trails with few downs and ups past several attractive villages of Choplung, Thade-Kosi, Ghat to reach Phakding by the Dudh Kosi River, where many trekkers and mountaineers stay for an overnight stop in lovely lodges at Phakding village.

The walk continues from Phakding village onward, visiting several villages of Toc-Toc, Benkar, to reach the lovely town of Monjo with views of Tharmarserku peaks in the northeast direction, walk leads to enter Sagarmatha National Park, listed in world heritage sites since 1979 enriched with flora and fauna.

Sagarmatha, a name for Mt. Everest in Nepalese, while native Sherpa knows by the name Chomolungma derived from the Tibetan language, means ‘Great Mother’ indeed a name that suits for world highest Mt. Everest.

The adventure continues walking into river gorge within the cool forest and crossing the high bridge with few hours climb to famous Namche Bazaar for few overnight stops, in this attractive large village offers excellent facilities for visitors as for local villagers, with once a week Saturday market held in Namche a grand bazaar.

Enjoy leisure hike to view-points and carry on walks to scenic Thyangboche and the monastery a beautiful spot surround by high peaks with views of Everest and magnificent Amadablam peaks this beautiful place located amid the serene forest.

Time here to visit its impressive monastery and continue walk towards higher ground visiting Pangboche then at Dingboche within a lovely, scenic Imjatse valley from here adventure finally reaches you to our major central spot at Everest Base Camp.

At Everest base camp, allowing more days preparation for the climb and to ferry foods and equipment required for summit bid storing into high fields, then back at base camp waiting for beautiful weather.

From base camp head for the final ascent using advance-Camp-I, Camp-II, and III to reach the summit after a strong effort going through most difficult sections over notorious Khumbu Ice-Fall where rest of climb is straightforward to reach the summit.

Enjoying the spectacular panorama from the rooftop of the world makes a safe descent back to base camp with stops on the route at designated campsites, on reaching safely with great success clear the base camp and garbage and head back to Lukla for final overnight around Everest.

From Lukla’s early morning flight to land at Kathmandu airport and then back into your hotel after a most remarkable adventure and experience on Mt. Everest South Col Expeditions.
