As walk progress heading past many farm villages and around Dunai the headquarter town of Dolpo area, an exciting place to explore and catch various cultures of Nepal Far Western people of both Hindu and Buddhist religions. The adventure then leads through farm villages around mid-hills populated by Hindu Thakuri Malla and Chettries. The walk continues to reach higher and remote areas within Buddhism and Bon community of Ringmo and around beautiful Phoksumdo Lake.

With the time, here to enjoy the scenic surroundings and isolated villages then heading crossing high passes of Baga-la and Numa-la to reach around lovely and picturesque Dho-Tarap valley within delightful large communities of Tokyu-Gaon. Here you can enjoy times soaking with local immense culture and custom of old heritage traditional life.

Slowly walk comes to an end walking into a scenic valley to reach historical Tarakot villages and then back at Jhupal for a scenic flight to Kathmandu via Nepalgunj after a great marvelous adventure and experience on Lower Dolpo Trekking.

Best Seasons for Lower Dolpo Trekking

April to May springtime will be the best time when wild-flowers especially the rhododendron (Nepal national flower) in full bloom, which the walk more attractive with beautiful, bright morning till afternoon, with some chances of rains sometimes.

September, October to mid-November another best month around Autumn/Fall and beginning of wintertime, when most of the days are clear to views and walks but can be much colder and freezing as altitude gains with chances of snow sometimes.

Monsoon months from mid-June to mid-September a wet rainy season trekking can do as the Dolpo region falls within rain-shadow area with fewer chances of rain around July to mid-September.

Day 01: Arrival day in Kathmandu via various airlines and transfer to hotel.

Day 03: Fly to Nepalgunj 150m 55 minutes flight and transfer to hotel.
  • Morning or afternoon transfer to Kathmandu domestic airport for flight to Nepalgunj city
  • During 55 minutes flight views of Himalayan range with Dhaulagiri and Annapurna mountains
  • On reaching at Nepalgunj airport transfer to hotel around the city area with time for short walk and preparation for the trek next morning.

Day 04: Morning flight to Jhupal 2,475 m and trek to Dunai 2,140 m - 04 hrs.
  • Early morning transfer to Nepalgunj airport for short flight to land at Jhupal within Dolpo.
  • On reaching Jhupal walk begins past farm villages and forest areas to reach a large town at Dunai for overnight in local simple lodge.
  • Dunai the hub and headquarter town of whole Dolpo district with time to explore around interesting town and markets witness people of Far Western Nepal.

Day 05: Trek to Chepka 2,838 m - 06 hrs.
  • Morning cross a bridge over Thulo Bheri River and climb a ridge to Phuksumdo River valley with views of Kagmara peak
  • Walk downhill past farm villages with walnut trees close to a stream at Dhera,
  • With short climb to Rahagaon village of Thakuri a Hindu local tribe, then downhill walk into forested area to reach overnight camp at Chepka a small farm village.

Day 06: Trek to Samdua village 2,960m -06 hrs.
  • From Chepka short climb and descend into forest to river,
  • Climb after leaving the forest, then downhill to cross a small bridge at Ryajik village
  • Trek further to Samdua for overnight stop near entrance of Phuksumdo National Park.

Day 07: Trek to Phoksundo Lake 3,630 m - 06 hours.
  • Today walk leads to Phoksundo Lake after Pungmo Khola valley and downhill to upper side of Phoksundo Khola
  • Continue walk to Ringmo village, an interesting village of Tibetan origin with mud plastered chhorten and Mani (prayer) walls.
  • A short walk to Phoksumdo Lake for overnight camp nearby Phoksumdo Lake

Day 08: Rest day at Phoksundo Lake for local excursion.
  • A rest day, marvel beautiful views of landscapes and peaks of Kagmara, and visit interesting Ringmo village by the lake side.

Day 09: Cross Baga La 5,070m and to Phedi 4,470m - 07 hrs.
  • Walk to reach other side of Dolpo heading east to cross over Baga-la at 5,070 meters.
  • From the top panorama of Phoksumdo lake and Kagmara peaks
  • After the top descend to overnight camp at Phedi (bottom of the hill).

Day 10: Cross Numa-la 5,190 m and to walk to other Phedi - 08 hrs.
  • Morning cross Numa-la at 5,190 m, highest spot of the adventure,
  • At the top views of Dhaulagiri and Kagmara peak and dramatic landscapes.
  • After the top descend to the base of the Pass, a gradual walk to overnight camp around Yak summer pasture.

Day 11: Trek to Tokyu Gaon 4,200m via Jyang la 5,090 m - 06 hrs.
  • From Tokyu-Gaon, one of largest village of Lower and Inner Dolpo,
  • Morning climb for two hours up at Jyang-la with views of snow capped mountains with Mt. Dhaulagiri North Face,
  • Then descend to Tarap valley to reach overnight stop at Tokyu-Gaon.
  • An interesting village with old monastery afternoon visit monastery and observe farming and daily activities.

Day 12: Trek to Dho Tarap 3, 944 m- 05 hrs.
  • After Tokyu Gaon, downhill to Tarap Chu on broad green valley,
  • One of scenic wide valleys with Sheppard’s settlements of Yaks and Sheep, and walk continues to our overnight camp at Dho Tarap.
  • Another interesting village with mix tribes of Tibetans origin and Magar hill tribe people.

Day 13: Trek to Ghyamgar 3,759 m - 07 hrs.
  • Descend to Tarap valley, largest and longest valley of Dolpo area of 20 k.m
  • Stretches Tarap Chu River joins Thuli Bheri River near Tarakot village,
  • Walk leads to Langa of beautiful cascading waterfalls head south to Sisaul a small place of Kesila to reach our overnight camp at Ghyamgar.

Day 14: Trek to Tarap Khola 3,652 via Chhyugar 3,440 m - 06 hours.
  • Morning walks on Tarap nice valley enter into narrow gorge with some vegetation of bushes of juniper and wild rose,
  • Walk leads to Toltol with large overhanging cave, walk reaches confluence of River Tarap Chu and Lang Khola, overnight camp by the river

Day 15: Trek to Tarakot 2,540 m - 06 hrs.
  • Start morning walk into a small wooded area, follow river all the way at Tarakot.
  • A large and interesting village with old history and well maintained terraced farm fields.
  • Tarakot with historical fortress (Dzong or Kot) guarding the village.
  • At Tarakot village visit famous old Sandul Gomba located at junction of Barbung Khola and Tarap Chu River for overnight camp.

Day 16: Trek to Dunai - 05 hrs then drive to Jhupal - 02 hr jeep ride.
  • After Tarakot, last day walk to Dunai then short drive to Jhupal for last overnight stop and flight back to Kathmandu.
  • Morning walk follows a wide trail with short uphill and downhill towards Thuli Bheri River valley to reach at Dunai,
  • Reaching Dunai jeeps drive to Jhupal to catch our next morning flight to Nepalgunj.

Day 17: Morning flight to Kathmandu via Nepalgunj and transfer to hotels.
  • From Jhupal a sweeping short flight to Nepalgunj to connect flight to Kathmandu with fantastic mountain panorama
  • Land at Kathmandu airport, and transfer to hotel around Thamel or near about.

Day 18: In Kathmandu free as contingency day and for individual activities.
  • An extra day in Kathmandu where flight can get delay and might lead to cancellation due to unfavorable bad weather,
  • Quite normal around Himalaya as weather can be un-predictable sometimes.
  • Spare day enjoy individual activities or just relax and enjoy the memories of Lower Dolpo Trekking.

Day 19: International Departure homeward bound or respective countries.
  • Depart from the hotel as per your flight time Adventure Alpine Gorkha Treks guides and staff and transfer you for International departure homeward bound or to respective countries.
