Lantang Gosaikund Trekking Overview

Lantang Gosaikund trekking is an enjoyable and scenic adventure that leads you to both sides of Langtang Himal range of mountains, with pleasant and enjoyable time to experience.

Lantang Gosaikund trekking is a combination of scenic country walk in the harmony of local native Tamang exciting culture. It was since the past hundred of centuries interwoven with Buddhist teaching and ancient Bon sect of pre-Buddhism religion.

Langtang Gosainkund trekking lead you first to the beautiful and marvelous valley of Langtang at Kyanjin enclosed by series of snow-clad mountains on both sides of the valley.

The second part of the journey takes you to a high and holy spot at Gosainkund lake, a huge glacial pond critical religious sites. Hindu where the great festival is held once a year, interesting to observe the events where pilgrims visit for a dip in the icy pond to relinquish the sin of a lifetime.

Walk progress heading up to cross the highest point of the adventure over Gosainkund-la or Eastern Laurabinaya la pass with impressive views to enjoy, then on the road to reach at Kathmandu, where our fabulous Langtang and Gosainkund treks end at Kathmandu valley eastern rim.

Best Seasons for Langtang Gosainkund Trekking:

Best season is March to May and September to early December months, March to May springtime will be the best time when wild-flowers especially the rhododendron (Nepal national flower) in full bloom, which the walk more appealing with beautiful, bright morning till afternoon, with some chances of rains sometimes.

October to December another best months around Autumn/Fall and pre-winter, when most of the days are clear for views and walks but can be much colder and freezing as altitude gains with chances of snow sometimes.

Monsoon months from mid-June to mid-September a wet rainy season where less number of trekkers venture and some lodge in mid monsoon and mid-winter lodge can be closed sometimes due to harsh and humid climate which makes the walking trails much harder and slippery, but much greener hills with lush vegetation in wet seasons, so the choice as per your holidays in Nepal and for Langtang-Gosainkund Trekking.

Day 04: Trek to Lama Hotel 2,450 m - 06 hrs.
  • Walk commence from Syabrubesi village cross a bridge over Langtang River
  • Climb into farm areas and green dense forest to Lama Hotel for overnight stop within forested area.

Day 05: Trek to Langtang Village 3,430 m - 05 hrs.
  • From Lama Hotel walk follows river upstream in forested areas and gorge, Reach at Ghodetabla for lunch stop and refreshing break
  • After lunch walk to Langtang village for overnight stop views of Langtang Lirung peaks towards north above high rocky cliff wall.

Day 06: Trek to Kyanjin 3,830 m / 12,565 ft - 04 hrs.

Day 07: At Kyanjin for option hike to Kyanjin-Ri 4,773 m /15,659 ft or Tsesgo-Ri 4,984 m /16,351ft.
  • A rest day for hike to high hills of Kyanjin-Ri or on top of Tsego-Ri
  • Offers panorama of whole Langtang Himal Mountain range with some peaks of Tibet across the border

Day 08: Trek to Lama Hotel -06 hrs.
  • Morning catch the views and walk back to Lama Hotel on downhill of about six hours back into forest area.

Day 09: Trek to Thulo Syabru 2,120 m - 05 hrs.
  • From Lama Hotel walks follows downhill to a place at Riverside.
  • After refreshing break enjoying views then climb up for few hours to Thulo or Upper Syabru for last overnight around Langtang Himal.

Day 10: Trek to Sing Gompa - Chandanbari 3,330m - 05 hrs.
  • A nice village for overnight stops at Thulo Syabru to observe local Tamang culture and its traditional farm life.       
  • From climb and enter into dense forest of rhododendron and pine trees for few hours facing grand views of Langtang-Ganesh and Manaslu peaks.
  • Walk leads on gradual winding path into forest to reach at a lovely small settlement at Sing Gompa for overnight stop, also called as Chandanbari (means place with sandalwood).

Day 11: Trek to Gosainkund Lake 4,200 m/ 13,779 ft- 05 hrs.
  • From Sing Gompa and its old monastery situated on top of the village, as walk climbs into deep forested area facing marvelous views of snowcapped peaks
  • Tree lines disappears for short bushes as climb leads to steep slope past a small scenic hill top of Laurabinaya, and then short descend to reach at Bhairab Kund and up for to reach at holy Gosainkund for overnight stop.
  • An interesting spot with sacred glacial pond where once a year in the month of August on full moon great religious festivals take place called ‘Jani-purnima’ thousands of pilgrims visit for holy dip and bathe in icy Gosainkund pond.

Day 12: Trek to Gopte 3,430m crossing Lauribinya-La and Gosainkund pass 4,610 m / 15,124 ft - 06 hrs.
  • Enjoying spiritual time at holy Gosainkund as walk leads to a climb on rocky trails past small ponds of Surya and Sarsati-kund (pond) to reach on top East Lauribinya-La and Gosainkund pass at 4,610 m / 15,124 ft high.
  • Enjoy fabulous scenery of landscapes and snow-capped peaks where long descend takes you at the bottom of the pass.
  • From the base of the Gosainkund-la walk leads back into forested area with few short ups and down to reach at Gopte for overnight stop.
  • A small place situated on the middle of the trail where Gopte refers to a cave shelter.

Day 13: Trek to Kutumsang 2,470 m/ 8,103 ft - 06 hrs.
  • After a peaceful overnight stop in simple local lodge, morning walk with slow climb to reach where trail of Helambu and Kathmandu joins near at Tadepatti a high scenic ridge.
  • From Tadepatti facing glorious panorama of Central Himalaya peaks walk on pleasant route within thick alpine forest to reach at a farm village of Kutumsang for overnight stop.

Day 14: Trek to Chisapani 2,165 m/ 7,103 ft - 06 hrs.
  • From Kutumsang a long day walk on high ridge overlooking grand views of beautiful landscape scenery and mountain range of Jugal Himal, as walk leads past Tamang village of Gulbhanjyang.
  • Continue journey with ups and down with last slow climb on top Chisapani for overnight stop.
  • A scenic place with good lodges to stay facing excellent views of peaks includes stunning sunrise and sunset views.

Day 15: Trek to Sundarijal and drive to Kathmandu - 05 hrs.
  • Morning catching beautiful sunrise over chain of Himalayan peaks, where last day walks leads to long descend into dense forest and past farm villages to reach at Sundarijal.
  • Sundarijal the watershed for Kathmandu city, from the town of Sundarijal where short drive brings you back at Kathmandu on completing wonderful adventure on Langtang and Gosainkund Trekking
  • Transfer to respective hotels with rest of the afternoon free at leisure

Frequently Asked Questions


How many people will be in the group?

From minimum 3-4 person in the group with maximum of 10-15 persons in the group, in some cases we do allow booking for single person as well, running independent at extra cost than in groups.

What will be weather like on the trek?

As per the season wise, where best time is from March to May, when most of the day is clear with minimum temperatures of 0° to 20° Celsius depending upon the altitude and areas.

Where most of the morning till mid days clears for views and walks, sometimes afternoon can get overcast with chances of light rains and snow. April to May will be lively with wild-flowers in full bloom especially various species of rhododendron (national flower of Nepal) from trees to short bushes.

How are the lodge and Tea-House on Treks?

Tea-House the word used in early days when there was smaller numbers of lodges on route trekking, at present each villages has more than 10 to 20 good lodges with pleasant rooms accommodations, serving excellent food menus as per the season wise.

Some village above 2,500 m and 3,000 m do have nice lodge, but due to freezing cold temperatures in night and morning time where they have toilets on the outside, with some inside as common bath rooms and rest rooms.

All rooms and dining with warm heating and cozy facilities to make your stay much pleasant and enjoyable.

Are there electricity and network for cell-phones?

Most of the places do have electricity on route trekking run by hydro-power after main villages, where much of electric supply are private and individual of the lodge owners with sun / solar power to activate electric just for the lodge and as well for customers to charge their computers and cell-phones.

Some places do have networks for cell phones and as well for internets like Wi-Fi above Langtang village and around Kyanjin, some areas due to high peaks and hills, the networks are disturbed in deep areas like around river gorge areas.

At present nearly all people in Nepal including remote villages do have assist to cell-phones with fine network connection only in bad weather the line can be broken, otherwise it is fine in working order.

What happens if some is sick and have to break the trek?

In this situation where our guides are well equipped with knowledge for emergency and medical purpose, depending upon the seriousness of the victims if it is much critical where nearest medical attention needed, we call for immediate evacuation for Helicopter services to reach the victims to nearest medical station and hospital.

What to expect on this journey?

Scenic views of world’s highest mountains with Langtang-Ganesh and Jugal Himal range includes interesting culture on route treks, where walk leads you around Buddhist country interwoven with old traditional life and custom similar to Tibetans.

Walk leads to visit Tamang villages encountering many farm fields and terraces of interesting traditional life of the local villagers.

Who are Tamang people?

The Tamang tribes are high hills people of Nepal spread around Himalaya throughout the country, where most concentrated within Langtang and Ganesh Himal area of Buddhist religion and origin, these hill tribes are famous as craftsmen as well merry making with dance and music, and Tamang are mostly farmers and cattle herders as traditional profession.

Is best flowering times from March to May?

Best months of the year and seasons for botany students, flower and nature lovers, where hills and valley alive with wild flowers in full bloom with riots of different colors, rhododendron from tall trees to short bushes will be in flowering times, rhododendron national flower of Nepal also.
