Kopra Hill Trekking starts from beautiful Pokhara city and its verdant valley surrounded by tiers of green hills and Annapurna Mountains with serene lakes, where drive leads to near Modi River, and then following an old Trans Himalayan Salt and Caravan Trade Route of Nepal and Tibet that extends beyond Ghorepani.

As walk proceeds on main trail for some days reaching at Ghorepani with hike to scenic Poon Hill for fantastic sunrise views over chain of Himalayan peaks, and then our route diverts off the main trail heading into complete isolation within serene wilderness of mountains to reach at high Kopra Hill. Kopra Hill offers spectacular panorama of Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri’s, Annapurna Fang (Vara Shikar) with Annapurna South at close distance, here with time to explore holy Lake of Khair before heading back to Pokhara visiting nice villages of Ghandruk.

Best Seasons for Khopra Hill Trekking

Nearly all seasons of the year can be trekked, where March to May spring time will be the best time when wild-flowers especially the rhododendron (Nepal national flower) in full bloom, which the walk more interesting with fine clear morning till afternoon, with some chances of rains sometimes.

October to mid November another best months around Autumn/Fall, when most of the days are clear for views and walks but can be much colder and freezing as altitude gains with chances of snow sometimes.

Monsoon months from mid June to mid September a wet rainy seasons where less number of trekkers venture, and some lodge in mid monsoon and mid winter where lodge can be closed sometimes due to harsh and wet climate which makes the walking trails much harder and slippery, but much greener hills with lush vegetation in wet seasons, so the choice as per your holidays for Nepal and for Khopra Hill Trekking.

Day 01: Arrival day in Kathmandu via various airlines and transfer to hotel.

Day 03: Drive or Fly to Pokhara 860 m (30 mins by air) with 6 hrs overland.

Day 04: Drive to Nayapul start walk to Tirkhedhunga 1,460 m- 05 hrs.
  • Morning breakfast in the hotel depart for short drive of few hours
  • Drive to starting point of the trek beyond Pokhara to reach at Nayapul rural town
  • From here walks for 3-4 hours to reach at to Tirkhedhunga a Gurung village with waterfalls close to overnight lodge.

Day 05: Trek to Ghorepani 2,880 m-06 hrs.
  • Morning breakfast start walks by 7 a.m. or 7: 30 a.m.
  • Reach Ulleri village after few hours climb on stone steps
  • Lunch after few hours of climb from Tirkhedhunga either Ulleri or Bhanthati villages
  • Walk on gradual winding up within forested area to Ghorepani Deurali village

Day 06: Hike to Poon Hill 3,210 and trek to Sauta village 2,240 m - 05 hrs.
  • Morning before breakfast start climb to Poon Hill for sunrise views
  • After 1-2 hrs walks at Poon Hill enjoy sunrise over panorama of mountains
  • View includes Mt. Dhaulagiri, Mt. Manaslu to Annapurna and as far to Ganesh Himal including Mt. Machhapuchare “The Fish Tail”.
  • Return to Ghorepani for breakfast and walk to Sauta village for overnight stop

Day 10: Trek to Ghandruk 1,930 m via Tadapani 2,635 m - 06 hrs.
  • Morning after breakfast walk into forest and downhill to reach Ghandruk village
  • Lunch at Tadapani with overnight stop at Ghandruk after 5-6 hrs of good walk
  • Afternoon explore around Gurung village at Ghandruk and its museum

Day 11: Trek to road head and drive to Pokhara-05 hrs.
  • Last day trek after breakfast downhill to low warm farm areas a 3-4 hrs walk

Frequently Asked Questions


What will be weather like on the trek?

As per the season wise, where best time is from March to May, when most of the day is clear with minimum temperatures of 0° to 20° Celsius depending upon the altitude and areas.

Where most of the morning till mid days clears for views and walks, sometimes afternoon can get overcast with chances of light rains and snow. March to May will be lively with wild-flowers in full bloom especially various species of rhododendron (national flower of Nepal) from trees to short bushes.

How are the lodge and Tea-House on Treks?

At present each village with more than 10 to 20 good lodges with pleasant rooms accommodations, serving excellent food menus as per the season wise.

Some village above 2,500 m do have nice lodge, but due to freezing cold temperatures in night and morning time where they have toilets on the outside, with some inside as common bath rooms and rest rooms.

All rooms and dining with warm heating and cozy facilities to make your stay much pleasant and enjoyable.

On Kopra walks after Ghorepani lodge are simple and basic for few days, as this route is away from main trekking trails with less number of walkers using this scenic and peaceful route.

Are there electricity and network for cell-phones?        

Most of the places do have electricity on route trekking run by hydro-power after main villages, where much of electric supply are private and individual of the lodge owners with sun / solar power to activate electric just for the lodge and as well for customers to charge their computers and cell-phones.

Some places do have networks for cell phones and as well for internets like Wi-Fi above Ghorepani and Chitre village, some areas due to high peaks and hills, the networks are disturbed in deep areas like around river gorge areas.

At present nearly all people in Nepal including remote villages do have assist to cell-phones with fine network connection only in bad weather the line can be broken, otherwise it is fine in working order.

What happens if some is sick and have to break the trek?

In this situation where our guides are well equipped with knowledge for emergency and medical purpose, depending upon the seriousness of the victims if it is much critical where nearest medical attention needed, we call for immediate evacuation for Helicopter services to reach the victims to nearest medical station and hospital.

What to expect on this journey?

Scenic views of world’s highest mountains with Dhaulagiri-Annapurna and Manaslu range include magnificent Machhapuchare Himal ‘Fish Tail’ peaks, where walk leads you around Buddhist country interwoven with old traditional life and custom similar to Tibetans.

Walk leads to visit Gurung and Poon-Magar villages and encountering many farm fields and terraces of interesting traditional life of the local villagers.

Who are Gurung and Poon-Magar people?

Gurung and Magar tribes are high hills people of Nepal Far Mid-West Himalaya spread out throughout Nepal, where most concentrated within Annapurna and Dhaulagiri area of both Hindu and Buddhist religion and origin, these hill tribes are famous as legendry Gorkha soldiers in foreign legion and army like British, India as well some as police force in Singapore and security guards in many parts of the world overseas.

Besides men-folk as famous Gorkha soldiers the hill people are mostly farmers and cattle herders as traditional profession.
