Manaslu Circuit Trekking Overview

Manaslu circuit trekking takes to you circuit of world’s 8th highest mountains Mt. Manaslu. Manaslu Circuit trekking, once a restricted region due to its closeness with Tibet / China border as the route was once a Caravan and Salt Trade Trail of Nepal and Tibet, where trade still exists in smaller ways than early days of more than 50 years back.

Around Manaslu Trekking starts with a drive to reach Nepal Mid West from the capital Kathmandu an exciting journey where one can witness Nepalese rural farm life around villages and towns.

On reaching at the end of the drive at Soti-Khola past busy town of Arughat, where the walk begins heading higher hills from low, warm farmland past charming villages and into the serene forest of rhododendron and pine trees.

The walk progress is leaving behind lush green vegetation and tree lines for beautiful windswept terrain on reaching scenic Himalayan range. Manaslu high valley enclosed within an array of peaks of Manaslu range, where the native of Tibetan origin calls Kutang for Manaslu.

You are enjoying time around lovely villages of Lo and Sama-Gaon with enough time to explore the local traditional farm life enriched with old custom visiting the monastery of great interest.

The journey continues heading far end of the valley towards due northwest reaching at the base of high Larke-la pass, where early morning climb takes you on top at 5,106 m high facing fantastic views of the surrounding mountain range.

After a marvelous moment with a tough walk to the pass where long descend takes you at Manang areas and back into green forested areas with downhill to reach a road-head at Dharapani village where Manaslu and famous Annapurna circuit route joins.

You will be Dharapani village with a pleasant overnight stop. The morning drive brings you back at Kathmandu, after a great adventure and overwhelming experience on Around Manaslu Trekking.

Best Seasons for Around Manaslu Trekking

March to May springtime will be the best time when wild-flowers especially rhododendron (Nepal national flower) in full bloom, the walk will be more attractive with beautiful, bright morning till afternoon, with some chances of rains sometimes.

October to early November another best months around Autumn/Fall, when most of the days are clear for views and walks but can be much colder and freezing as altitude gains with chances of snow sometimes.

Monsoon starts the months from mid-June to mid-September wet and rainy seasons. Along with the trail less number of trekkers venture and some lodge in mid monsoon and mid-winter lodge can be close, sometimes due to the harsh and humid climate which makes the walking trails much harder and slippery. Day 01: Arrival day in Kathmandu via various airlines and transfer to hotel.
  • Reaching Kathmandu received by our staff and guide
  • Adventure Alpine Gorkha Treks transfer to your respective hotel
  • Explore around the streets of Kathmandu and Thamel area.
  • Briefing about the trek at the office, we will talk about the equipment needed during trek. If you arrived late evening, we will discussed the program next day.

Day 02: In Kathmandu options for sightseeing tour and trek preparation.

Day 03: Drive to Soti-Khola 730 m- 07 hrs via Arughat 570 m - 06 hrs
  • Morning after early breakfast by 7 a.m. where overland journey takes you to
    Nepal Mid West at Gorkha areas town at Arughat.
  • From Arughat drive follows Buri-Gandaki River to reach at a farm village of Soti- Khola for overnight stop after more than six hours interesting drives.

Day 04: Trek to Machha Khola 930 m - 06 hrs.
  • First day walks into steep valley around forested areas past small villages
  • Nice views of cultivated terrace of Lapbesi upper village thek descends to a wide, sandy riverbed following a trail that meanders below a steep, craggy valley side.
  • Walk leads to a climb tos Machha Khola for overnight stop, a village with number of teashops and small lodge, Maccha Khola means a Fish Stream.

Day 05: Trek to Dobhan 1,070 m via Tatopani (Hot Spring) - 06 hrs.
  • Morning walk leads past interesting farm villages and cultivated fields
  • Walk upstream towards Khola-Bensi village and Tatopani, a place with natural ‘hot spring’.
  • Continue trek crossing a suspension bridge, entering patch of forest and then reaching at Doban located on the high shelf of Burigandaki River.

Day 06: Trek to Jagat 1,345 m - 05 hrs.
  • Morning walk to Lauri stream cross a bridge and climb and then descend to open valley of Yara Khola
  • Journey continues for some hours to reach at Jagat.
  • Jagat a nice moderate farm village with mix people Magar, Chettries, Brahman, Manaslu Bhotia (Tibetan looking tribes) and some Newar people a lodge owner and shopkeepers.

Day 07: Trek to Deng 1,800 m via Philim 1,570 m - 06 hrs.
  • From Jagat descends to a a river, climbs on terraced hillside at Saguleri, with view of Sringi Himal 7,187m.
  • Walk continues with ups and down trail as our route reach at a bridge over Buri-Gandaki.
  • After crossing a bridge reach at Philim village with rich cultivated fields and terraces.
  • With refreshing top climb into golden fields of wheat’s and barley, and past forest area towards Eklai Bhatti
  • From here walk to Pewa, route divert toward North West to reach overnight stop at Deng.

Day 08: Trek to Namrung 2,630 m - 06 hrs.
  • Morning walk into cliff walls, continue towards Deng village, where houses and terrains completely changes of more Tibetan like.
  • Walk leads past Bihi and Ghap villages entering alpine woodland crossing a large stream flowing from the glacier of Lidana.
  • Grand views of Manaslu native name Kutang (Manaslu) Himal range with Pang Phuchin 6,335m, Saula Himal 6,235m with many unnamed peaks of above 6000m.
  • From here altitude gains to reach at Namrung for overnight stop, this village also called Sho Namru.

Day 09: Trek to Lo-Gaon 3,180 m - 05 hrs.
  • Morning leads to farm fields and Yak herder huts and shelter and into high and scenic valley all the way to Lo-Gaon a nice village for overnight stop.
  • Around Lo, visit monastery with numerous chhorten and Mani walls with views of Ganesh Himal towards east.

Day 10: Trek to Sama-Gaon 3,530 m -05 hrs.
  • From Lo-Gaon pleasant walk as altitude gains with views of Peak 29, after climb reach a small forest at Shala village with view of Phungi, Manaslu and Himal Chuli.
  • Walk few hours to reach Sama-Gaon village, with super view of Mt. Manaslu.
  • Sama-Gaon a large village around Manaslu Valley, local are farmers cultivating buck wheat, barley which are the main crops.
  • Villagers migrated from South West Tibet more than 400 years of history with custom and culture of Buddhist heritage similar to Tibetan predecessor.

Day 11: At Sama-Gaon rest day for acclimatization and local excursion.
  • Rest day for acclimatization before Larke-la Pass, explore nice and scenic area and visit its old Monastery of Nyligpa (red hat sect) sect of Buddhism.

Day 12: Trek to Samdo 3,690 m - 05 hrs.
  • After Sama-Gaon a nice day walk of four hours to reach last village of Gorkha and Manaslu valley at Samdo for overnight stop.
  • Start with slow climb as elevation gradually gains with dry much air which makes walk slower than earlier past days.

Day 13: Trek to Larke Phedi / Dharama-Shala 4,470 m - 04 hrs.
  • Morning walk leads to the end of the valley with incredible views of snow capped peaks of Manaslu.
  • Walk continues to reach at Larke Phedi means bottom of the pass, also called Dharmasala a rest house / shades
  • At Larke Phedi afternoon free for short walks and preparations for next early to cross high Larke-La pass

Day 14: Cross Larke La 5,106 and trek to Bhimthang 3,790 m -07 hrs.
  • From Larke Phedi a steep climb over moraine of rocks and boulders in snow conditions it will be arduous job to find the right trail.
  • Cross ablation area north of Larke glacier, grand views of Cho Danda with Larke Peak, walk with gradual ascent and steeper to Larke-la
  • The pass festooned with thousands of Buddhist colorful prayer flags.
  • Marvel excellent panorama of Himlung, Cheo Himal, Kang Guru and Annapurna II includes series of Manaslu peaks.
  • Descend to a valley at Larcia, on moraine ridge to Tambuche at 3,900m, the bottom of the pass, and then a short walk leads to Bhimthang for overnight stop after a long, tough day walks.

Day 15: Trek to Gho 2,760 m - 06 hrs.
  • From Bhimthang downhill walks with some short climb on route to Gho into thick alpine woodland.
  • Walk into beautiful forested area to reach at Gho for overnight stop, small cattle and yak herders summer pasture and temporary settlement.

Day 16: Trek to Dharapani 1,725 m -05 hrs.
  • Last day walk on downhill through woodland to Telje village, a nice place by the Raging Marysangdi River
  • Crossing a suspension bridge to reach at large and nice lovely Dharapani village, located on Annapurna Circuit trail and Around Manaslu Trekking route.
  • Dharapani village provides excellent lodges for overnight stay.

Day 17: Drive to Kathmandu -06 hrs.
  • After trekking around high valley of Manaslu to Manang district back to Kathmandu, on completing wonderful adventure Around Manaslu Trekking
  • Transfer to respective hotels with rest of the afternoon free at leisure

Day 18: International Departure homeward bound or respective countries.
